CITY OF CAMPBELL RIVER WATER RESTRICTIONS TO END ON OCTOBER 1, 2023

With recent rainfall and more expected in the coming weeks, all watering restrictions in the City of Campbell River will be lifted on October 1, 2023 – reduced from Stage 2 water restrictions, which have been in effect since mid-July.

“Given the long-term forecast and operational numbers we have decided to follow the timeline in the bylaw and let the watering restrictions end at the end of September,” said Steven Roehr, Operations Manager, Utilities. “Operations will continue to monitor the system but, due to the shortened days and weather forecast, significant increases in flows are not expected to be seen once the restrictions are lifted.”

Restrictions through the hot summer months were largely successful inCITY OF CAMPBELL RIVER WATER RESTRICTIONS TO END ON OCTOBER 1 reducing overall water consumption and helped ensure adequate reserves for emergency firefighting use. This included an 11 per cent reduction in average daily water use from July to August.

“On behalf of the City, we’d like to thank the Campbell River community for following water restrictions through the summer and helping reduce overall water use during drought conditions,” said Roehr “We saw lots of people prioritizing water conservation, which makes a big difference in the end."

Campbell River residents and businesses are encouraged to continue following water-wise practices throughout the fall and winter. These efforts help to protect the watershed into the future and reduce the overall environmental impact.
